Elderly Man Fatally Shot While Attempting to Break Up Fight at Norfolk Convenience Store

NORFOLK, Va. — In a tragic incident on Lindenwood Avenue, an 84-year-old man lost his life while trying to intervene in a dispute outside a convenience store. The Norfolk Police Department has arrested two men and one woman in connection with the shooting that also injured another man.

On the evening of December 20, around 8 p.m., authorities received a distress call reporting a gunshot victim at 826 Lindenwood Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an elderly man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim, identified as James R. Carter, was immediately rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Shortly after, investigators were informed that another male had arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Detectives quickly established a connection between the two incidents, indicating that the shooting was a result of the ongoing dispute outside the convenience store.

Following an extensive investigation, the Norfolk Police Department has filed charges against three individuals in connection with the homicide. Dennis C. Hisle, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of use of a firearm. Bruce G. Hisle, 40, faces charges of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition as a felon. Additionally, Tamika Credle, 41, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.

All three suspects are currently in custody at Norfolk City Jail pending further legal proceedings.

This senseless act of violence has shocked the community, leaving neighbors and friends mourning the loss of James R. Carter. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victim’s family.
