60-Year-Old Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Double Shooting in Palm City

A 60-year-old man is facing two counts of attempted murder following a shocking incident that unfolded on Thursday night in Palm City. The shooting, which occurred inside the Clubhouse Court development along Martin Downs Boulevard, left his girlfriend and her adult daughter injured.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect identified as Shaun Dougherty, a military veteran, arrived home highly intoxicated and initiated an argument with his girlfriend concerning their relationship. The situation quickly escalated when he demanded to engage in sexual activity, which his girlfriend refused.

The sound of four loud bangs initially led neighbor William Wagner to believe it was fireworks. However, upon looking outside his window, he realized the severity of the situation. Wagner recalls hearing people yelling in agony and then pleading for someone to call the police.

Les Frost, a next-door neighbor of Wagner, encountered the injured victims firsthand. Frost answered his door to find one of the women, covered in blood, seeking help after being shot. Acting swiftly, Frost and his wife rushed to assist the 65-year-old victim, fearing for her survival.

Fortunately, both victims are expected to make a full recovery, as confirmed by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The daughter of the woman shot in the arm expressed gratitude that they both survived the harrowing ordeal, despite sustaining wounds to the chest, neck, and arm.
