Two Drivers Injured in Collision on West Side of Salem

On Wednesday afternoon, a two-vehicle crash on the west side of Salem resulted in injuries to both drivers involved. The collision took place in the 2300 block of West Main Street, just west of XPO. Salem Police were called to the scene to investigate the incident.

According to the authorities, the accident occurred when 32-year-old Brock Powell of Perkins Street in Odin was traveling westbound behind another car. As the vehicle in front of Powell slowed down to turn into a driveway, Powell was unable to reduce his speed in time and collided with the rear of the car. The driver of the car that was struck has been identified as 60-year-old Peggy Nehrt, a resident of West Main Street in Salem.

Following the crash, both drivers sustained injuries and were immediately transported to Salem Township Hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, there were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the collision.

Salem Police have determined that Powell was at fault for the accident and have issued him a citation for failure to reduce speed in order to avoid a collision. The Salem Fire Protection District was also summoned to the scene and reported that both drivers were already out of their vehicles by the time they arrived.

The collision took place at 3:42 PM on Wednesday afternoon, causing temporary disruptions to traffic in the area.
