A shocking incident occurred in Houston last week when a 17-year-old Texas teenager, Hunter Cameron Villasana, allegedly drove under the influence and fatally ran over a homeless woman who was sleeping on the road’s median. According to local authorities, the teenager then attempted to bribe witnesses at a nearby Jack in the Box restaurant to let him escape the scene.

Villasana is now facing charges of intoxication manslaughter, as revealed by online court records. The Houston Police Department (HPD) stated that the teenager was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The victim, a white female in her 50s, has not yet been identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

During the court appearance on Monday, Harris County prosecutors disclosed that Villasana tried to bribe Jack in the Box workers who witnessed the incident. The prosecutors stated that Villasana offered to send them money through Venmo if they agreed to let him flee. However, the employees prevented the teenager from leaving until law enforcement arrived, as reported by local station KHOU.

The tragic incident took place around 11:25 p.m. on Friday when Villasana was driving a black Mercedes GLK350 along a service road near 7700 Katy Freeway in Houston. According to the HPD statement, the teenager attempted to make a turn at an “unsafe speed,” causing the Mercedes to hit a curb and the pedestrian sleeping on the median before colliding with a wall. Witnesses detained Villasana when he tried to flee the scene.

Employees at the fast-food restaurant contradicted Villasana’s claim that the homeless woman was walking in the middle of the street when the accident occurred, according to authorities.

The witnesses held Villasana at the scene until law enforcement arrived, and the Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead.

Villasana has been released to parental custody after posting a $200,000 bond. The judge, during the court hearing, imposed several restrictions on the teenager, including a prohibition from driving and the mandatory use of an ankle monitor that detects alcohol consumption, as reported by KHOU.

Prosecutor Matthew Bergeron emphasized the severity of drunk driving in Harris County, urging residents not to drive under the influence. He advised individuals to call a friend or use services like Uber to avoid such tragic situations.

Villasana’s next court appearance is scheduled for February.
