18-Year-Old Arrested and Charged in Connection with Multiple Memphis Crimes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – An 18-year-old suspect, Tedric Parson, has been apprehended and accused of being involved in a series of burglaries across the Bluff City. The crimes, which include two burglaries at cell phone stores in Memphis on Monday, as well as numerous other offenses dating back to spring 2022, have raised concerns among local residents.

Parson faces a multitude of charges, including four counts of property theft ($10,000-$60,000), two counts of currency theft ($1,000 or less), property theft ($2,500-$10,000), clothing theft ($10,000-$60,000), three counts of vandalism from burglary ($1,000-$2,500), two counts of vandalism from burglary ($10,000-$60,000), two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, five counts of burglary, reckless driving, no driver’s license, and intentionally evading arrest in an auto.

This recent arrest comes after Parson and another individual were previously charged in November. They were involved in a car theft that occurred at a shooting scene in Colonial Acres. The stolen car led the Memphis Police Department (MPD) on a chase that ultimately ended in a crash in Arkansas.

Parson had been released on a $30,000 bond but now finds himself facing additional charges related to a string of burglaries, thefts, and smash-and-grab incidents. These criminal activities date back to spring 2022 and include the following:

  • May 21, 2022: A smash-and-grab at City Gear on Elvis Presley Boulevard resulted in the theft of merchandise worth $30,000. Parson confessed to the crime, stating that he found a key to the store. He admitted to using a stolen car and the key to gain access to the store, where he stole shoes and clothes.
  • June 24, 2022: A Metro PCS store on Summer Avenue was targeted in a smash-and-grab incident. Parson broke into the business using a brick, causing $2,000 in damages, and stole $240 in cash.
  • December 11, 2023: Parson allegedly stole a 2016 Nissan Altima valued at $9,000.
  • December 13, 2023: Parson allegedly stole a 2015 Nissan Altima valued at $58,000.
  • Friday: The Boost Mobile store on North Cleveland Street fell victim to a smash-and-grab incident where $2,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. Parson, accompanied by other suspects in separate stolen cars, claimed to have used the Nissan Altima stolen on December 13 for this crime. Although Parson was unable to steal any merchandise, $2,000 in damages were inflicted upon the store.
  • Sunday: Parson allegedly stole two 2020 Nissan Altimas, each valued at $21,000 and $20,000.
  • Monday: The AT&T store on Summer Avenue became a target as Parson drove a stolen Nissan Altima to the location, broke into the store, and made off with an undisclosed amount of merchandise.

The series of crimes committed by Parson raised concerns among law enforcement agencies. On Tuesday, a Memphis police detective spotted one of the stolen Nissan Altimas on Holmes Road. Before the officer could initiate a traffic stop, the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph.

On Wednesday, an officer noticed the same stolen Nissan Altima parked outside a gas station near the intersection of South Parkway East and Florida Street. Police discovered the car unoccupied and proceeded to detain everyone inside the store until backup officers arrived.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, authorities confirmed that there were three individuals inside the stolen car. Parson was identified as the driver, while the other two passengers were minors. Disturbingly, both minors were found to be armed, with one of the handguns being reported as stolen.

All three individuals were transported to a police station for questioning. Parson is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, although no information regarding his bond has been made available at this time.

Residents of Memphis and the surrounding areas remain concerned about the escalating crime spree. Local authorities are working diligently to address the situation and ensure the safety of the community.
