Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Fatal Stabbing of Mexican Man in North York

A man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the tragic and fatal stabbing of a 46-year-old man from Mexico earlier this month in the North York area of Toronto.

Stabbing Incident Prompts Police Response

The incident occurred on December 2nd when Toronto police responded to a distress call regarding a stabbing in the vicinity of Bayview Avenue, close to Hwy. 401. The police were alerted to the scene to investigate the reported altercation between two individuals, resulting in one man being stabbed.

Suspect Flees, Then Returns

Following the incident, the victim, identified as Juan Carlos Gomez Salgado, was rushed to a local hospital where he received urgent medical attention for his life-threatening injuries. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Gomez Salgado unfortunately passed away on December 11th due to the severity of his wounds.

Identity of the Suspect

The suspect in question has been identified as Rigoberto Ulin Lopez, a 35-year-old resident of Toronto. Initially, Lopez was charged with assault, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon. However, in light of the victim’s untimely demise, the charges have since been upgraded to assault and second-degree murder.
