Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car in Coronado Identified as Cynthia Guiten

San Diego, Calif. – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who tragically lost her life in a fatal accident early this month as Cynthia Lorraine Guiten, a 69-year-old woman.

On the evening of Friday, December 1, 2023, Guiten was attempting to cross 5th Street in Coronado when she was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet SUV. This incident occurred near the Coronado Holiday Parade route at approximately 6:50 p.m., as reported by the Coronado Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and emergency services were contacted. Responding paramedics swiftly transported Guiten to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, where medical professionals performed lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Guiten was pronounced dead at around 7:51 p.m. on the same day.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Guiten’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries to her head, trunk, and extremities.

According to witnesses, a man had reportedly walked between two parked cars and into the roadway when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

Regrettably, the pedestrian, who remains unidentified, lost their life at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the authorities.
