Two Arrested in Connection with Robbery at Illegal Marijuana Farm After Body Found in U-Haul Truck

Authorities in California have made arrests months after a tip about a body inside a U-Haul truck led to the discovery of a heist at an illegal marijuana farm. San Francisco police discovered the body of 21-year-old Alexander Licona-Romero of Oakland in a U-Haul truck back in August, according to a news release by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office on December 19.

Following an extensive investigation, law enforcement officials determined that Licona-Romero had been killed during a robbery at an illegal pot grow in the Berry Creek area of Butte County. Detectives revealed that Licona-Romero and two other individuals had traveled from the Bay Area to Berry Creek with the intention of committing an armed robbery.

During the robbery, Licona-Romero was fatally shot. Subsequently, his partners transported his body back to San Francisco in the U-Haul truck, where one of them contacted the police to report the discovery.

In November, authorities arrested 24-year-old Harold Rodriguez-Blanco of Oakland on charges of attempted robbery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. In the same month, 31-year-old Graciela Buenrostromendoza of Modesto was also arrested on the same charges following a search of his residence. Both men are accused of planning and executing the robbery that resulted in Licona-Romero’s death.

Butte County officials have stated that additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at 530-538-7671.

Butte County, located approximately 80 miles north of Sacramento, has been grappling with illegal marijuana cultivation, which has led to various criminal activities in the area.
