Nine-Year-Old Girl Still Missing After Alleged Rape and Murder in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A nine-year-old girl from outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area remains missing, eight days after she was allegedly raped, murdered, and dumped in a canal by her 52-year-old landlord. The family members of the victim are growing increasingly restless as the search for her continues.

Efforts to locate the girl’s body have been ongoing. On Wednesday, a team of 26 jawans from the National Disaster Response Force, including several divers, was deployed at the Munak Canal in an attempt to retrieve the body, but their efforts were in vain. The victim, a fourth-grade student, was reportedly abducted by her landlord, taken in a car, sexually assaulted, and then her body was dumped in the gushing waters of Munak canal on December 12.

The grandfather of the rape victim expressed his frustration, stating that it has been over a week since the incident occurred and the body has yet to be found. “The police informed us that the accused killed our daughter and threw her body in the canal. I don’t know if she is dead or alive; I just want my granddaughter back,” said the inconsolable elderly man. When asked how and when they first learned about the incident, the grandfather explained that they searched for her and even questioned the accused landlord, but he claimed he was not in the city at the time.

“Later, we went and lodged a police complaint. CCTV footage was discovered, which showed my granddaughter sitting in our landlord’s car. He resides just a few streets away,” the grandfather added. The landlord, identified as Sanjeev Rana, is currently in the hospital.

“According to the police, after killing my granddaughter, the landlord returned home and confessed everything to his family members. He was assaulted by one of his relatives and later left home in anger, resulting in an accident,” he revealed. The accused landlord is presently receiving medical treatment in the hospital and is yet to be arrested. The distressed grandfather urged the police to prioritize the search for his missing granddaughter and bring her home as soon as possible.
