A 21-year-old man from Newbury Park, accused of brutally killing his mother with a hammer, pleaded not guilty to a murder charge on Wednesday.

Scott Goldberg, the defendant, also denied a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in an alleged attack on his father.

Furthermore, Goldberg pleaded not guilty to special allegations of personally using a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury. These allegations, if proven, can significantly impact the sentencing.

According to prosecutors, Goldberg, who resided with his parents in the 200 block of Mayfield Court, launched a violent assault on both of them on the night of November 19.

His mother, Alison Marshall, was struck upstairs, suffering multiple skull fractures and a brain injury. She was immediately rushed to Los Robles Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and on December 1, she passed away while under hospice care.

When Goldberg’s father heard his wife’s screams, he rushed upstairs to help her, but Goldberg turned towards him, descending the stairs and striking him with the same hammer.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Stuart Gardner is handling the prosecution, while Goldberg was represented by private attorney Ron Bamieh in court.

The case is scheduled for an early disposition conference on the afternoon of February 28 in room 37 of Ventura County Superior Court. Goldberg is currently held without bail at the county’s main jail.

Robbery Suspect Apprehended

Authorities in Port Hueneme have arrested a 28-year-old man, suspected of robbing a woman outside Bard Elementary School last week.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on December 13 at 622 E. Pleasant Valley Road, according to Port Hueneme Police Chief Michael Federico.

The victim had sought refuge at the school while attempting to escape from the suspect. Unfortunately, the doors were locked, and the man caught up with her, forcibly taking her property before fleeing the scene in a black Mazda CX-90. The victim claims not to have any prior knowledge of the suspect.

The Port Hueneme police were able to identify the suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence with the assistance of the Oxnard Police Department SWAT team and Ventura County Sheriff’s personnel. The suspect was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery, as well as other stolen vehicle violations, by the other agencies. He is currently held in county jail with a total bail set at $875,000.

Alleged Prowler Arrested for Repeat Offense

A 24-year-old man from Port Hueneme was taken into custody on Sunday for suspicion of prowling and peeping. This arrest comes after he allegedly returned to a residence where a similar incident occurred in February.

According to the Port Hueneme Police Department, surveillance footage captured the suspect’s presence at the residence on the previous night. The suspect, who appears to have no connection to anyone at the residence, was also identified as a suspect in the February incident. Detectives are currently investigating if he may be linked to other incidents in the city.

The suspect is currently held in county jail with a bail set at £25,000.
