Accident – Death – Obituary News : Suspect Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Killing of Mexican Man in Toronto

Toronto, ON – A suspect is now facing a second-degree murder charge in the tragic killing of a Mexican man in Toronto, according to the Toronto Police. The incident occurred on December 2nd at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the area of Bayview Avenue and Highway 401. Police responded to a stabbing at a residence following an altercation.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Juan Carlos Gomez Salgado from Mexico. Salgado was stabbed during the altercation and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries on December 11th.

After the incident, the suspect initially fled the scene but later returned and was subsequently arrested by the police. The suspect, identified as Toronto resident Rigoberto Ulin Lopez, 35, was initially charged with assault, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon. However, following Salgado’s death, the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder and assault.

The killing of Juan Carlos Gomez Salgado marks the 69th homicide in Toronto in 2023, highlighting the ongoing issue of violence in the city. The Toronto Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
