Four individuals charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two brothers in Glenview, Cook County

COOK COUNTY – A juvenile and three adults have all been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of two brothers in unincorporated Glenview, Cook County. The incident occurred earlier this year and has left the community in shock and mourning.

On August 19, the Cook County Sheriff’s police received a distress call around 9 p.m. reporting shots fired in the 14000 block of Michael Todd Terrace. Swiftly responding to the scene, officers were met with a horrific sight – the lifeless bodies of 16-year-old Jose Guzman-Ezquivel and 19-year-old Carlos Guzman-Ezquivel, who had both suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Tragically, Jose was pronounced dead at the scene, while Carlos was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries later on, despite the best efforts of medical professionals. The loss of these two young lives has left a void in the hearts of their loved ones and the community as a whole.

Another victim, a 16-year-old boy, was fortunate to escape with a graze wound to his back, a stark reminder of the indiscriminate violence that unfolded that fateful evening.

Through a meticulous and months-long investigation, law enforcement authorities were able to identify the alleged perpetrators behind this heinous crime. Carlos Miranda, a 22-year-old resident of Prospect Heights, and a 15-year-old juvenile were identified as the suspected gunmen. Police discovered that Jose and Miranda had been involved in a fight back in July, which had sparked a series of events leading to this tragic outcome. The 15-year-old offender, seeking revenge, obtained a photograph of Jose, intending to identify him.

On that fateful evening of August 19, Miranda and the 15-year-old assailant confronted the victims outside an apartment complex. According to the police, Miranda shot Jose multiple times at close range, while his brother Carlos and the third victim attempted to flee. However, the assailants continued their relentless assault, firing upon them from behind.

At the crime scene, investigators recovered numerous shell casings from different caliber firearms, providing crucial evidence for their case. Additionally, a cellphone belonging to the 15-year-old suspect was found, further linking him to the scene of the crime.

Furthermore, the investigation revealed the involvement of two other individuals in this tragic incident. Griselda Martinez, a 42-year-old resident of Itasca, played the role of a lookout during the shooting, while Sergio Patino-Jaime, a 19-year-old from Wheeling, was responsible for disposing of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

Martinez’s involvement as a lookout during the shooting was confirmed by the police. Patino-Jaime, on the other hand, was found to have played a crucial role in disposing of the vehicle used by the assailants to travel to and from the site of the attack.

In the legal proceedings that followed, the 15-year-old suspect appeared in juvenile court on Wednesday and will remain in custody pending trial. Miranda, on the other hand, appeared in court on Tuesday and has been ordered to be held in custody at the Cook County Jail.

Meanwhile, Martinez and Patino-Jaime were released from custody and are currently under electronic monitoring, awaiting their day in court.
