The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on August 19, on Michael Todd Terrace, just west of Milwaukee Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two victims who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, one of the victims was pronounced dead on-site, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to the injuries later.

The two victims have been identified as Jose Guzman-Ezquivel, aged 16, and Carlos Guzman-Ezquivel, aged 19, both of whom were brothers. Additionally, a third individual sustained a graze wound to their back during the incident.

According to the investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office, it was revealed that Jose and 22-year-old Carlos Miranda from Prospect Heights had previously engaged in a physical altercation in July. Following the altercation, a 15-year-old boy sought revenge for the fight, leading to the tragic events on the night of the shooting.

Law enforcement officials state that Miranda and the teenage assailant approached the Guzman-Ezquivel brothers outside an apartment complex, where Jose was shot multiple times at close range. Carlos and the third victim attempted to flee the scene, but were shot from behind. Along with shell casings, officers discovered the cell phone belonging to the teenage shooter at the crime scene, providing crucial evidence.

Utilizing cell phone data, surveillance footage, and other digital evidence, the sheriff’s officers were able to identify the shooters and two additional suspects involved in the incident. The suspects have been named as 42-year-old Griselda Martinez from Itasca and 19-year-old Sergio Patino-Jaaime from Wheeling. It has been alleged that Martinez acted as a lookout during the shooting, while Patino-Jaime assisted in the disposal of the vehicle used in the crime.

All four individuals have been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted first-degree murder. The teenage suspect appeared in Cook County Juvenile Court on Wednesday, where a judge ordered the individual to be detained. On the other hand, Miranda, Martinez, and Patino-Jaime appeared in court in Skokie on Tuesday. Miranda was ordered to be held in custody, while Martinez and Patino-Jaime were placed under electronic monitoring.

This incident has shaken the community of Glenview, leaving a deep impact on the residents. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has extended their condolences to the victims’ families during this difficult time.
