The incident took place in September when the bodies of three individuals were discovered inside a cabin. After a thorough investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that a murder-suicide had taken place.

Recently, Crow Wing County Attorney Don Ryan concluded his review of the case. In a letter issued by Ryan, it was revealed that 56-year-old Michael Toner of Maple Grove fatally shot and killed 54-year-old Melanie Jansen of Maple Grove and 29-year-old Hannah Parmenter(Jansen) of Elk River before turning the gun on himself. Ryan’s letter also stated that there was no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in the double murder-suicide. As a result, he determined that prosecution was not warranted, officially closing the case.

The tragic incident came to light when a family member called 911 after seeing two individuals lying on the floor inside the cabin. The Breezy Point police officer who responded to the call confirmed the report upon looking through a window. He then broke a window adjacent to the front door to gain entry. Inside the cabin, he discovered the three victims, all of whom had suffered gunshot wounds.
