The tragic shooting occurred on May 8 in the 2900 block of Sedgemore Place in Bryan’s Road, Charles County, Maryland. Police received a call about a domestic dispute and the sound of gunshots in the early morning hours, prompting their immediate response.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered 30-year-old Carl Braxton, a DC firefighter, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Braxton was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Braxton had assaulted his girlfriend inside their townhouse shortly before the shooting. The woman managed to escape and sought help from a passerby walking his dog. Witnesses informed the police that Braxton confronted the man and made threats towards him.

The suspect responsible for the shooting has been identified as 37-year-old Carlos Lavanto Garner. It was reported that Garner shot and killed Braxton as the firefighter continued to approach him aggressively.
