TRICHY: A 28-year-old woman, identified as Dhanalakshmi from Keezha Panjappur, tragically took her own life after experiencing severe trauma following a dog bite. The incident occurred on Monday when she set herself on fire using kerosene at her maternal house.

Her family members quickly extinguished the flames and rushed her to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy, where she unfortunately succumbed to her burn injuries on Tuesday.

The police have registered the incident as an unnatural death under Section 174 of the CrPc. ACP Kennedy, the assistant commissioner of police from the Cantonment Range, is leading the investigation. It has been revealed that the woman had been battling depression, and her parents had brought her back to stay with them.

The woman’s struggle began seven months ago when she was bitten by a dog, leading to ongoing mental trauma.

“Despite receiving anti-rabies vaccination after the dog bite, the mental trauma persisted. According to her family’s account, excessive worry drove her to take this extreme step,” explained ACP Kennedy.

The woman had been married for six years to a man in Kulithalai, Karur district, and they had a daughter together.

A postmortem was conducted at MGMGH, and her body was handed over to her family members on Tuesday.
