Body Found in Las Vegas Field Identified as Missing Ohio Teen after 44 Years

A body discovered in a Las Vegas field 44 years ago has been identified as a 19-year-old from Ohio who went missing in 1979, Nevada police reported.
Gwenn Marie Story of the Cincinnati area left home in the summer to search for her biological father in California, according to a news release by the Las Vegas police on Tuesday, December 19.

Two friends who accompanied Story later returned and informed her family that they had left her in Las Vegas, but they never heard from her again, the police said.
In August 1979, a man walking through a field stumbled upon a body, which has now been identified as Story through DNA testing, the police confirmed.
“After 44 years of not knowing what happened to our sister Gwenn Story, we have news that she has been identified,” Story’s family expressed in a statement to KLAS. “We are seeking closure on this case. Our family simply wants some answers.”
The family extended their gratitude to the police for their relentless efforts in the decades-old cold case. “If it wasn’t for you, we would still be wondering where Gwenn is,” the family added.
The body was found at the location of a former casino and had been given the nickname “Sahara Sue” due to its proximity to Sahara Avenue, the police revealed.
In 2022, Las Vegas cold case investigators collaborated with Othram, a DNA analysis company, to create a genetic genealogy profile, the police disclosed.
By comparing the profile with DNA donated by family members of missing women, investigators successfully identified the body as that of Gwenn Story in November, the police stated.
