APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 14-year-old male was apprehended after attempting to evade apprehension by the police in a stolen vehicle in Apple Valley.

On Monday, December 18, 2023, Sergeant B. Grimm, a member of the Apple Valley Police Department, initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of Kiowa Road and Lone Eagle Road.

Sheriff’s officials stated that instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle chose to flee from the area. Deputies T. Belvin and B. Clancy spotted the vehicle at the junction of State Highway 18 and Pauhaska Roads and proceeded to initiate a traffic stop.

Nevertheless, the driver of the vehicle once again failed to comply and continued to drive at a high rate of speed into an open desert area near State Highway 18 and Pauhaska Road. Deputy S. Rex managed to locate the vehicle in the desert and discovered that the occupants had abandoned it and fled on foot.

According to sheriff’s officials, deputies immediately began searching the area for the individuals who had been in the vehicle. Deputies Belvin and Clancy observed a male juvenile running east through the desert.

Subsequently, deputies successfully located and detained the subject, who was later identified as a 14-year-old male from Victorville. Upon investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the owner was contacted to retrieve the vehicle.

The juvenile suspect was subsequently booked at the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center.

Individuals with any information regarding this investigation are urged to contact Deputy Belvin at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
