The Rising Concern of Cardiac Arrests Among the Youth

Experts have expressed growing concern over the alarming rise in cardiac arrests among young individuals. While it is unusual for children to suffer from such severe heart complications, it is essential to understand the potential risk factors. Unlike adults who predominantly experience heart attacks due to blockages in their blood vessels, children face an increased risk of cardiac arrest due to genetic or congenital diseases. Conditions such as a hole in the heart, muscle enlargement or shortening, and viral infections can trigger cardiac arrest in children.

Dr. Alkesh Jain, a renowned cardiologist, shared his insights on the matter, stressing the need for awareness and vigilance. He stated, “Deaths due to cardiac arrests are rapidly increasing among the youth. Although it is uncommon for children to experience cardiac arrests, it is crucial to acknowledge that heart attacks in children are not caused by blockages in blood vessels. Instead, genetic or congenital diseases pose a significant risk. Factors such as a hole in the heart, muscle abnormalities, or viral infections can lead to cardiac arrest in children.”
