The White Settlement Police Department received a welfare check call on Saturday night, prompting officers to rush to a Jack in the Box parking lot. Upon arrival, they were confronted with a horrific scene; a man was found “slumped over the wheel” of a heavily damaged Kia Forte.

To their disbelief, officers discovered a lifeless human body in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Tragically, fire and medical personnel confirmed the passenger’s death at the scene.

Investigative evidence suggests that the impact of the collision was so severe that the pedestrian was forcefully thrown into the vehicle. Authorities believe that the car had been parked in the restaurant’s lot for a minimum of two hours before the 911 call was made.

White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook, during a media briefing covered by WFAA, described the incident as a high-speed crash. Notably, the car’s windshield was partially shattered, and the victim had suffered clothing and body part losses. Additionally, Chief Cook highlighted signs of significant intoxication in the driver.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Nester Lujuan Flores, was apprehended and is expected to face a charge of intoxication manslaughter. However, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Douglas Sisk, has indicated that the charges are still pending as of Monday afternoon.

In a bizarre turn of events, Flores informed the police that he believed he had struck an animal in Dallas, leading him to continue driving until he reached the parking lot where he was ultimately discovered. Expressing his disappointment, Chief Cook addressed the press and criticized Flores for failing to recognize the victim as a human being and for neglecting to seek immediate help.

The investigation has taken a further twist as the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, now leading the case, uncovered human remains near an Interstate 30 service road, potentially linked to the victim found in Flores’ vehicle.

To establish the victim’s identity, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office and Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office are collaborating in their efforts. However, as of Monday afternoon, a positive identification has yet to be made, as confirmed by Sisk.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences associated with driving under the influence. It emphasizes the critical importance of taking immediate action following any collision, as lives can be irreversibly altered or lost.
