Durham Regional Police Officer Assaulted While Attempting to Arrest Teenagers for Vandalism

An incident occurred in Clarington last week when an off-duty police officer was assaulted while trying to apprehend two teenagers who were allegedly causing damage to a vehicle. The Durham Regional Police responded to the call in the early hours of December 15th after the off-duty officer, who belonged to another police service, witnessed the suspects engaging in property damage. When the officer identified himself and attempted to make an arrest, the suspects resisted and assaulted him. They managed to escape before the arrival of the Durham police officers.

Thanks to the assistance of their K9 unit, the police were able to track down the two suspects who were hiding in a nearby residence. The individuals involved in the incident are both 15-year-olds from Clarington, but due to their age, their names are not being released at this time. They have been charged with assault to a peace officer and mischief under $5000.

After being apprehended, the two teenagers were released on undertakings. The extent of the injuries sustained by the off-duty officer during the assault remains unclear.
