Man dies at hospital following Bloomfield shooting

Timothy Ross, a 31-year-old resident of Bloomfield, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident that occurred just before 9 a.m. in the vicinity of 590 Bloomfield Ave. Emergency services promptly transported him to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he was later pronounced dead, as confirmed by the local police.

The Bloomfield Police Department Detective Unit identified Devante Swaby, originally from Peoria, Arizona, as the primary suspect in this devastating homicide case. Subsequently, an arrest warrant for Swaby was issued on December 12. However, it was discovered that he had fled Connecticut. To aid in the pursuit, the Bloomfield Police Department collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force. After a meticulous investigation, U.S. Marshals successfully located and apprehended Swaby on the evening of last Friday at an address on the 8100 block of N 99th Ave. in Peoria, Arizona.

Presently, Swaby remains in custody at the Peoria Police Department, as arrangements are made for his extradition back to Connecticut, according to the authorities.

Father of two remembered at vigil following fatal Bloomfield shooting

Last Thursday evening, a poignant vigil was held in Bloomfield, where over 40 friends and family members gathered to honor the memory of Timothy Ross.

During the vigil, Rev. Henry Brown, co-founder of Mothers United Against Violence, expressed his grief over the devastating loss. He stated, “Timothy was only 31 years old, with two young children. With Christmas just around the corner, their father won’t be there. This year, gun violence has destroyed the lives of so many people. Sadly, Timothy’s family has also been torn apart by gun violence.”

According to the authorities, Swaby’s bail has been set at $5 million. His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for January 4, 2024.
