Expressing her concern, Maliwal stated, “The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance of media reports stating that a 9-year-old girl has been missing since December 12 from Swaroop Nagar. It has been reported that the family’s landlord allegedly abducted, raped, and killed the minor girl. It has been stated that the accused later dumped her body in the Munak canal. This is a very serious matter.”

In her efforts to ensure justice for the victim, the DCW Chairperson has requested detailed information from the authorities. This includes a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) registered in the case, updates on the apprehension of the suspect, clarification regarding any arrests made, progress on the recovery of the girl’s body, and a comprehensive report on the actions taken by the concerned authorities. The DCW has set a deadline of December 22, 2023, for the submission of this information.

The police investigation has revealed that a 52-year-old man named Sanjeev Rana has been arrested in connection with the abduction, rape, and murder of the minor girl. The accused allegedly disposed of the girl’s body in the Munak canal. To aid in the search for the victim’s remains, a specialized team of divers has been deployed.

The chain of events unfolded when the police were alerted about the girl’s disappearance on December 12. During the search for the missing child, the accused was involved in an accident and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in the Rohini area on December 15. However, due to his medical condition, his statement couldn’t be recorded at the time.

Since December 17, efforts to locate the victim’s body in the canal have been ongoing, with a dedicated team of divers and investigators meticulously combing the area. In addition, divers from Khajuri have been summoned to provide further assistance in the search.
