Guilford Man Dies in Fatal Rollover Crash on Interstate 95 in Branford
A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Branford, as a 77-year-old man from Guilford lost his life in a single-car rollover crash on Interstate 95. Connecticut State Police reported that the victim, identified as Peter Botarelli, was ejected from his vehicle during the collision.

Troopers from Troop G swiftly responded to the motor vehicle collision after receiving a distress call around 10 a.m. The incident took place on I-95 South, just south of Exit 55 in Branford. The Connecticut State Police, committed to ensuring public safety, were on the scene promptly.
Details of the Tragic Accident
Initial findings from the preliminary investigation indicate that the crash involved a Nissan Xterra. The vehicle was traveling in the far right lane of I-95 South when the driver, Peter Botarelli, reportedly lost control. The SUV veered off the roadway, colliding with a traffic control sign and rock wall before ultimately rolling over.
Fatal Consequences
Tragically, Mr. Botarelli was ejected from the SUV during the rollover crash. Emergency services rushed to the scene and quickly transported him to Yale New Haven Hospital. Despite their best efforts, the medical team pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Investigation and Road Closure
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. As part of their meticulous process, the highway was closed in the area for approximately three hours to facilitate the investigation and ensure the thorough collection of evidence.
