Ohio Woman Killed and Two Georgia Motorists Injured in Head-On Collision in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning as an Ohio woman lost her life and two Georgia motorists were injured in a devastating head-on collision along Interstate 40 in Putnam County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported that the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20.

According to officials, the fatal crash involved a 2022 Dodge Ram 5500 that was pulling an enclosed trailer and traveling eastbound on I-40. Unfortunately, the truck veered off the left side of the road, crossed the median, and entered the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a 2016 Nissan Rogue near mile marker 280.

Tragically, the driver of the Nissan, identified as 58-year-old Tanya Johnson from Ohio, lost her life in the collision, despite wearing her seatbelt.

Meanwhile, inside the Dodge, there were two occupants, described by authorities as a 51-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger, both from Georgia. Thankfully, they were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, but sustained injuries. As of now, there is no update on their current conditions.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Dodge, as confirmed by THP.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s online traffic map, which can be accessed here, indicates that all lanes have been reopened at mile marker 280 on I-40 West as of 1:45 p.m.

As of now, there are no further details available regarding this tragic incident.
