Drunk Police Officer and Former Border Patrol Police Officer Injured in Fight Over Female Waitress

A police officer and a former Border Patrol Police officer sustained injuries after engaging in a physical altercation over a female waitress at a restaurant in Chaiyaphum, a province in northeastern Thailand. The incident, which occurred on December 19, resulted in one individual being shot in the legs and the other being struck in the head.

The Mueang Chaiyaphum Police Station received a report of a shooting at a restaurant located on Bannakarn Road. Prior to the arrival of the authorities, both injured individuals had already been transported to Chaiyaphum Hospital.

Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement discovered blood stains and scattered objects inside the restaurant. Witnesses informed the police that the two injured men were police officers who had been socializing together and became involved in a physical altercation due to their intoxication.

The individuals involved were later identified as 62-year-old police captain Amphon and 56-year-old former Border Patrol Police officer Maneedate. Amphon sustained a head injury from a blunt object, while Maneedate suffered gunshot wounds to his legs.

According to Maneedate, he and his friends were already at the restaurant when Amphon arrived and approached him. A disagreement ensued, leading to a physical assault by Maneedate and his companions against Amphon.

While the cause of the disagreement remains unclear, Bangkokbiznews reported that it originated from a dispute over a female waitress working at the restaurant.

Amphon responded to the assault by retrieving a .32 pistol and firing multiple shots, two of which struck Maneedate’s legs. One bullet passed through his left groin and lodged in his buttocks, while the other penetrated his right leg. Amphon also sustained injuries and received seven stitches for his wound.

Legal Consequences and Similar Incidents

Initially, Amphon was charged with carrying and using a firearm in a public place without reasonable cause. This offense carries a maximum punishment of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both. No charges have been filed against Maneedate. Both parties will be summoned for questioning once Maneedate’s condition improves.

A similar incident involving a police officer shooting a retired soldier at a temple in Prachin Buri, a province in central Thailand, was reported in November. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the details of the investigation and case outcome have not been disclosed to the public.
