Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Alleged Attempted Murder in Boulder County

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A man sustained life-threatening injuries during an alleged attempted murder at a residence outside Longmont during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call for assistance shortly after midnight on Tuesday from a resident residing on Portico Lane in unincorporated Boulder County, just outside of Longmont. Upon arrival, first responders found a 60-year-old man who had suffered severe blunt force trauma injuries, posing a significant threat to his life.

The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance and later flown to a Level 1 trauma center to receive further medical care, according to a statement by the sheriff’s office.

Authorities have determined that the man’s injuries were the result of an apparent attempted murder. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Michael Joseph Lucky, allegedly targeted the victim specifically.

After an extensive search, law enforcement located Lucky’s vehicle nearby on Plateau Road; however, it was unoccupied. Lucky voluntarily appeared at the sheriff’s office headquarters on Tuesday morning and was subsequently taken into custody.

Lucky is now facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, criminal attempt to commit a Class 1 felony, first-degree burglary, stalking in violation of a protection order, violation of a protection order, domestic violence, and two counts of crime of violence.

Remarkably, at the time of the attack, Lucky was out on bond for a separate case involving the victim’s daughter, the sheriff’s office revealed.

During the search for Lucky, neighboring residents were placed under a temporary shelter-in-place order as a precautionary measure. However, this order was later lifted once the suspect was taken into custody.
