Couple Arrested in Murder Case of 93-Year-Old Woman Left Alone on Floor Without Food or Water

In a shocking turn of events, authorities have finally made arrests in the murder case of a 93-year-old great-great grandmother who tragically died after being left alone on a bedroom floor without access to food or water. The local sheriff’s office in Georgia has confirmed the arrest of Angela Nicole Patton, the victim’s granddaughter, and her boyfriend, David Glyn Smith. This arrest comes more than two years after the death of the elderly victim, identified as Dora Jordan.

The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) released a statement revealing that Angela Nicole Patton, 42, from Buchanan, Georgia, and David Glyn Smith, 50, from Lindale, have been charged with murder and cruelty to a person aged 65 or older.

Newsweek reached out to the HCSO for comment and an update on the case, but no response has been received at the time of publication. It remains unclear whether Patton or Smith have retained attorneys to speak on their behalf.

The heartbreaking incident first came to light in September 2021 when HCSO Sheriff Stacy Williams conducted a welfare check on an elderly person, prompted by a faint cry for help he heard coming from inside the residence. Upon entering the home, Sheriff Williams discovered the 93-year-old victim in a very weak condition on her bedroom floor. It was evident that she had fallen and had been without food or water for an extended period of time. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Following this incident, Patton and Smith returned home the next evening and were subsequently taken into custody on charges of cruelty.

Tragically, on October 27, 2021, one month after being found alone on the floor, Dora Jordan passed away. Her death was later determined to be a homicide by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examiner’s Office in March 2022, leading to the reopening of the case. After a comprehensive and detailed investigation, the evidence was presented to the Haralson County Grand Jury on December 4, 2023. The jury decided to indict Patton and Smith, leading to their recent arrest.

Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams expressed his shock and disbelief at the mistreatment of an elderly person. He stated, “Good people don’t understand how anyone could mistreat an elderly person, much less a grandparent. This case became even worse when Mrs. Jordan passed away from this treatment.”

The arrest of Patton and Smith took place at approximately 2 a.m. on a Saturday. They were found hiding in a shed on a property in Floyd County and refused to cooperate with authorities. Consequently, a search warrant was obtained, and deputies from the HCSO and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office entered the shed to apprehend the pair. Currently, Patton and Smith are being held without bond in Haralson County Jail.

Dora Jordan’s obituary, which can be found on Miller Funeral Home’s website, highlights her love for activities such as cross-stitching, oil painting, and reading. She was also an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, who were in the midst of the World Series at the time of her tragic passing.
