Britt, MN (KROC-AM News) – Two individuals from Minnesota tragically lost their lives in a collision involving a semi truck in northern Minnesota.

According to the State Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday at an intersection approximately 14 miles north of Virginia in St. Louis County. The collision involved a sedan and a semi truck.

Based on the state crash report, the sedan, driven by 81-year-old Fernando Navarro Tibayan of Britt, MN, was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Hwy. 53 when it was struck on the side by a northbound semi truck.

The impact of the collision resulted in the unfortunate deaths of Tibayan and his passenger, identified as 83-year-old Filipinas Domingo Tibayan, also from Britt, MN. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck has been identified as 65-year-old Thomas Michael Rosik from Marcell, MN. He was transported from the crash site to a nearby hospital with injuries that are considered non-life-threatening.
