On April 20, 2014, Sung Jin Farris was found with a fatal gunshot wound, and despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Criminal Investigation Division Robbery-Homicide Unit of the Killeen Police Department presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. As a result, two complaints were returned charging Johnathan Shaw Allen Holmes, aged 36, and Zykeshalla Tyree Murphy, aged 32, with murder. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson swiftly issued warrants for their arrest.

Both suspects were apprehended on Tuesday morning. Zykeshalla Tyree Murphy was arrested in Ashland, Ohio by the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force, while Johnathan Shaw Allen Holmes was located and detained in Belton by the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

The investigation into this tragic incident is still ongoing, and the Killeen Police Department has stated that no further information will be disclosed at this time.

It is worth noting that shortly after the shooting, a story published in the Herald had identified Johnathan Shaw Allen Holmes, then 27, as an individual seen fleeing the scene. He was later arrested and charged with evading arrest. However, he was released after being questioned by the police regarding the shooting.

According to arrest affidavits from 2014, two individuals, including Holmes and 28-year-old Jamie Lynn Torres, along with another woman who was not charged, were observed leaving the scene in a vehicle.

The affidavit reveals that a police officer attempted to pull over a maroon Cadillac, which matched the description of the vehicle seen leaving the crime scene. However, the driver of the Cadillac evaded the officer and continued for eight blocks before eventually stopping in an alley behind a local business.

Johnathan Shaw Allen Holmes was identified as the driver, while Jamie Lynn Torres and the unnamed woman were passengers in the vehicle. During a search, officers discovered a .40-caliber gun in the glove box. Notably, three .40-caliber shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting.

All three individuals were detained by the Killeen police for questioning and subsequently transported to the Killeen City Jail. The arrest affidavits also mention that bags were placed over their hands to preserve any potential gunshot residue.

Unfortunately, Jamie Lynn Torres tore off the bags and washed his hands before they could be tested for gunshot residue, as stated in the affidavit.

As the investigation progresses, the Killeen Police Department remains committed to seeking justice for Sung Jin Farris and bringing closure to his family and loved ones.
