In a shocking and horrifying series of events that unfolded in the Kamareddy district, six family members were brutally murdered within a span of 15 days. The bodies of the victims were callously dumped in various locations, leaving the community in a state of shock and fear. The accused, identified as Methi Prashanth (20), hailing from Makloor in Nizamabad, was apprehended along with his accomplices, Vamshi and Vishnu, and his minor brother, by the district police on December 19.

The Superintendent of Police, Kamareddy, Bindu Sharma, revealed that the first clue in the investigation came when an unidentified woman’s body was discovered in Sadashiva Nagar on December 14. The police, through their meticulous investigation, were able to establish a connection between this murder case and the subsequent killings. It was discovered that Prashanth was a friend of the victim, Mangali Prasad, and had orchestrated the murders with the motive of acquiring the family’s property. The four accused are believed to have killed Prasad, his wife Sanvika, their two young children, and Prasad’s sisters, Swapna and Shravani.

According to SP Bindu Sharma, Prasad, who was a native of Makloor, had been accused in a suicide abetment case involving a woman back in 2018. In an attempt to repay his debts, Prasad sought Prashanth’s assistance in mortgaging his home. However, Prashanth suggested transferring the land into his own name, deceiving Prasad with the promise of helping him secure a mortgage. Unbeknownst to Prasad, Prashanth had sinister intentions and planned to eliminate the family members after the land transfer.

Gruesome Murders Unfolded

The series of murders began on November 29, when Prashanth lured Prasad into a forest along with his friends. Once there, Prasad was given alcohol and eventually killed. The three accused buried Prasad’s lifeless body in the forest. To avoid raising suspicion, Prashanth informed Prasad’s family that he was hiding in Nizamabad due to legal complications arising from the suicide abetment case. The family, trusting Prashanth, refrained from filing a missing person’s report with the police.

On December 1, Prashanth and his accomplices rented a car and convinced Prasad’s wife, Sanvika, and his sister Shravani to accompany them to Nizamabad under the pretext of meeting Prasad. Tragically, the accused allegedly strangled Sanvika with a rope and callously discarded her lifeless body off the Basara Bridge. Subsequently, Shravani was taken to Chegunta in Medak district, where she was brutally strangled and set ablaze.

Continuing their spree of heinous acts, on December 4, Prashanth and his minor brother deceived the remaining family members into believing that Prasad and Sanvika wished to see their children. Tragically, the innocent children were mercilessly killed, and their bodies were heartlessly disposed of near a bridge in Mendora village, Nizamabad.

With Prasad’s mother, Susheela, and another sister, Swapna, being the last surviving family members, Prashanth, fearing suspicion, took them to a lodge near Nizamabad Railway Station. On December 13, Swapna fell victim to the killer’s hands and was also strangled to death in Sadashiva Nagar.

Realizing the danger surrounding her, Susheela managed to escape from the lodge. Utilizing technical evidence and CCTV footage, the police, who were already investigating Swapna’s case, successfully apprehended Prashanth, Vamshi, Vishnu, and the minor boy. Additionally, the police recovered documents that proved the land had indeed been transferred to Prashanth’s name.

While the bodies of Swapna, Shravani, and the two children have been recovered, the bodies of Prasad and his wife remain missing. The cell phones belonging to the murdered family members were seized from the accused on December 19, providing further evidence against them.

The Kamareddy district community is now grappling with the devastating aftermath of these gruesome murders. The swift action by law enforcement has brought a sense of relief, but the scars left behind by this heinous crime will undoubtedly take time to heal.
