The Coral Springs Police Department announced on Friday that arrest affidavits had been obtained for the five teenagers involved in the incident, all aged between 15 and 17. By December 15, four of the teens were already in custody, and the fifth teen turned himself in to the police soon after, as reported by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

The incident unfolded near the high school student parking lot at approximately 3 p.m. local time, prompting officers to respond to reports of a fight. One student was immediately rushed to the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries,” according to the police department’s initial statement. However, video evidence obtained by the South Florida Sun Sentinel revealed the horrifying nature of the attack.

The footage showed a group of teens ambushing an 18-year-old student in the parking lot. The victim was brutally lifted into the air, forcibly slammed onto the ground, and subjected to multiple punches and kicks. Witnesses recounted that the fight began when the victim was unexpectedly punched in the face, and others were encouraged to join in. The savage assault shocked onlookers and sparked fears about the safety of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Disturbingly, four of the teens involved in the altercation were identified as students of the very same school that had been scarred by the tragic shooting incident in 2018, which claimed the lives of 17 innocent people. The fifth teen attended Coral Glades High School, further highlighting the distressing nature of this incident.

In a recent Facebook post, the Coral Springs Police Department assured the public that they are working diligently to identify “an additional suspect” linked to the altercation. The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of the community and schools, highlighting that they have around 50 officers assigned to patrol areas around schools during dismissal.

“The safety of our community and schools remains our top priority. On a daily basis, we have approximately 50 officers from multiple specialized units who are assigned to patrol areas around schools during dismissal. In this incident, we did have two patrol officers around North Community Park during dismissal time. This continues to be an ongoing investigation where additional arrests may be forthcoming,” stated the police department.

Felony battery in the state of Florida is considered a third-degree felony, carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. As the investigation progresses, it is expected that more information will be unveiled regarding the motives and circumstances surrounding this shocking incident.
