Tragic Murder-Suicide in Plainfield, Indiana Leaves Two Dead

PLAINFIELD, Ind. — In a shocking incident that unfolded early Monday morning, two individuals lost their lives in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide at a residence in Plainfield, Indiana. The tragic incident has left the local community devastated.

According to a Facebook post by the Plainfield Police Department, officers received a distress call reporting a burglary at a home located in the 5800 block of Grevillea Lane at approximately 3:38 a.m. EST. Law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of a male and a female adult. The residence showed signs of forced entry, with a shattered basement window, according to local news outlet WTHR-TV.

Plainfield police Deputy Chief Joe Aldridge confirmed that the incident is being treated as a murder-suicide. The identities of the deceased individuals have been revealed as Jessica Diane Stoebick, a 47-year-old homeowner, and her estranged husband Ryan Gibbs, 41, as reported by the Indianapolis Star.

Tragically, three teenagers who were present in the home during the incident escaped unharmed and promptly contacted the authorities, as reported by WISH-TV.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide is ongoing, and police have not released specific details regarding the cause of death for the couple.

Court records indicate that Gibbs had previous charges pending against him. In April, he faced charges of invasion of privacy, intimidation, stalking, resisting law enforcement, and distribution of an intimate image. The charges stemmed from an alleged violation of a non-contact order and the public dissemination of explicit photos of Stoebick, as reported by the Star.

Gibbs was scheduled for a pretrial conference on January 17, 2024, according to WXIN-TV. The disturbing history of harassment between the victim and the suspect has come to light, revealing the profound challenges faced by the affected family.

Deputy Chief Aldridge expressed his condolences to the grieving family and urged the community to support them during this difficult time, especially considering the holiday season.
