Man Allegedly Stabbed, Beaten, and Robbed in Disturbing Incident

In an unsettling turn of events, a man in Daytona Beach was reportedly stabbed, beaten, and robbed by a mother and daughter duo who held him captive in their vehicle. The victim eventually managed to escape, according to a police report.

The Daytona Beach police responded to a call at 5:41 a.m. on Saturday regarding a person being shot in the 500 block of South Caroline Street. Upon arrival, the victim informed the police that he had been attacked by two women, one of whom stabbed him multiple times. He was found bleeding from the arm and mouth, with a missing front tooth.

According to the victim’s statement, he encountered a woman named Carla Thomas, 53, while at the Baymont Hotel on West International Speedway Blvd. He offered to help her as she worked on a sport utility vehicle. At that moment, Thomas’ daughter, Danielle Toliver, 33, approached the victim and requested his assistance in picking up a scooter, offering to pay him for his help.

Trusting the two women, the victim got into the back seat of their SUV, and the vehicle drove off. However, he fell asleep and woke up to an accusation by the younger woman, Toliver, claiming that he had stolen her mother’s phone. In a shocking turn of events, she proceeded to stab him and steal his iPhone. Meanwhile, Thomas punched the man in the mouth, causing him to lose a front tooth.

The victim pleaded with the women for approximately 15 minutes to let him out of the car, but they refused, threatening to take him somewhere to kill him. Eventually, he managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle in the 500 block of South Caroline Street and sought help from a passerby, who called 9-1-1.

Carla Thomas, identified as Toliver’s mother by the victim, was promptly arrested. She is currently held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bail on charges of robbery with a weapon and false imprisonment, as per court records.

The victim positively identified Danielle Toliver as the person who stabbed him in the arm and lip, according to an arrest report. However, Toliver remains at large and is wanted for robbery, as confirmed by Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt on Monday.

Court records reveal that Toliver had previously been arrested in December 2022 for allegedly robbing a security guard using a stun gun. However, the charges related to that incident were dropped on April 28, according to court papers.
