High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Fiery Crash, Resulting in Arrest of 24-Year-Old Man

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A thrilling high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds of up to 170 miles per hour, concluded in a fiery crash and led to the apprehension of a 24-year-old man, as confirmed by the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The incident took place on Monday, December 18, when vigilant detectives noticed a purple Dodge Charger recklessly maneuvering on the roads, overtaking vehicles on the shoulders and turning lanes.

Upon attempting a traffic stop, the detectives were met with the Dodge Charger accelerating at an alarming speed, narrowly missing a jogger in the vicinity.

Utilizing the Air 1 helicopter, Metro police managed to track the Dodge as it entered a residential neighborhood. During this time, the passenger was observed alighting from the vehicle, discreetly placing two bags in the backyard of a residence, before reentering the car.

Eventually, the Dodge Charger careened into the intersection of Jonesboro Drive and McCrory Creek Road, resulting in a catastrophic crash and subsequent fire.

According to the arrest report, the driver, identified as 24-year-old Jakob Ethridge, along with the passenger, exited the vehicle. Ethridge attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Further investigation led detectives to the discovery of the two bags previously stashed behind a residence. The bags were found to contain more than 14 grams of marijuana, 3.3 grams of cocaine, an oxycodone pill, suboxone, 15 grams of mushrooms, 14 unknown prescription pills, an AK-47 pistol, and semi-automatic pistol.

According to statements from the passenger, Ethridge instructed her to dispose of the bags. Detectives later confirmed that the Dodge had been reported stolen after running a VIN number check. Ethridge allegedly admitted to driving at an astonishing speed of 170 miles per hour in an attempt to evade the pursuing officers.

Prior to this incident, Ethridge already faced pending charges of evading in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment.

Ethridge has now been taken into custody and is expected to face up to 15 charges, including felony drug possession, weapon possession, and evading arrest.
