Person Struck and killed on Highway 97 Near Redmond

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a person was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Highway 97 near Redmond. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) reported that the collision took place at approximately 12:19 a.m.

According to DCSO, a 911 call was received regarding a person sitting in the median of an unlighted section of Highway 97, near the NE Maple Avenue overpass. Sadly, at some point, the individual moved into the right northbound lane and was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by a Redmond resident.

The victim, identified as Corey Lee Smith, a 52-year-old from Warm Springs, tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Fortunately, the driver and passenger of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

DCSO stated that the northbound lanes of Highway 97 had to be closed for approximately three hours as a result of the accident.
