In 1999, a shocking discovery was made by fishermen in a lake in Lyon County, Kentucky. They stumbled upon a body wrapped in heavy tire chains, anchored with a hydraulic jack. For over two decades, the identity of this mysterious man remained unknown. However, recent advancements in forensic genealogy have finally provided answers.

After the body was found in Lake Barkley, authorities conducted extensive investigations but were unable to identify the deceased individual. In 2016, the remains were exhumed with the hope that further examinations could shed light on the man’s identity. Despite DNA tests, dental examinations, and advanced forensic techniques, the victim’s identity remained a mystery for another seven years.

Earlier this year, a breakthrough occurred when Kentucky State Police collaborated with NAMUS and Othram Inc., a private forensic lab specializing in forensic genealogy. Through advanced genealogy DNA testing, investigators managed to locate a relative of the victim, leading to the identification of the remains as those of Roger Dale Parham.

Who is Roger Dale Parham?

In 1999, Roger Dale Parham was residing in Fort Smith, Arizona, where he was awaiting trial for various criminal charges. However, in March of that year, Parham disappeared, presumably to evade prosecution. His sudden disappearance prompted the FBI to pursue additional charges against him and launch an ongoing investigation to locate him. Until now, the circumstances surrounding Parham’s vanishing had remained a perplexing mystery.

Although the cause of Parham’s death remains undetermined, Kentucky State Police officials are treating the case as a homicide due to the suspicious circumstances in which the remains were discovered.
