Deputies Pursue Armed Suspect

The chase unfolded as deputies pursued Wolffscott on Interstate 80. During the pursuit, an uninvolved motorcyclist was hit by Wolffscott’s vehicle. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has not yet determined the reason behind the attack on the motorcyclist.

Body Camera Footage Reveals Intense Moments

A video released by the sheriff’s office shows the perspective of a California Highway Patrol officer who was involved in the chase. The officer’s radio transmission reveals that the suspect was approaching Greenback Lane at a high speed of 122 mph.

The footage captured by the body camera of a K9 sheriff’s deputy at the scene shows the deputy stopping to assist the injured motorcyclist. As the deputy approaches, Wolffscott is seen pulling out a knife and disregarding the deputy’s commands to remain in his vehicle. The K9 deputy then fires his gun twice at Wolffscott, causing him to fall to the ground.

However, Wolffscott continues to pose a threat as he gets back up with the knife in hand and attempts to stab the motorcyclist. In response, the K9 deputy fires four more shots, a CHP motorcycle officer fires three rounds, and a CHP patrol officer fires one round, ultimately resulting in Wolffscott’s death. The motorcyclist, who was also injured during the incident, was taken to the hospital and survived.
