Man Charged in Overland Park Teen’s death Faces Legal Consequences
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – The man responsible for the tragic death of a 17-year-old in late July is now facing charges. On July 26, 2023, Darrin Joseph Boomershine was driving a Kenworth dump truck on southbound Metcalf Avenue. Despite the red light at 115th Street, Boomershine allegedly failed to yield and collided with the line of cars stopped in front of him.

The devastating collision involved a total of 9 cars, resulting in the untimely death of 17-year-old Will Ensley. The incident sent shockwaves through the community and left many grieving for the young life lost.
According to the charging documents from Johnson County Court, Boomershine was operating his vehicle “in a manner which created an unreasonable risk of injury to the person or property of another,” and was also following the cars ahead of him too closely.
Boomershine is now facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, registration violation, motor carrier misdemeanour, and following too closely. These charges highlight the severity of the incident and the potential consequences Boomershine may face if found guilty.
After being taken into custody, Boomershine posted a $10,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

The charging documents reveal that there are 41 witnesses involved in the case, including the victim, Will Ensley. Ensley, who would have been in his senior year at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, was known for his hard work and promising future.
