Zambian Musician Nathan Mithi Allegedly Takes His Own Life Amid Accusations of Infidelity

A well-known musician from Zambia, Nathan Mithi, has tragically ended his life after accusing his wife, Sabby Phiri, of being unfaithful. Mithi, a member of the prominent music group Ghetto Link, was laid to rest on December 14, 2023.

In a heartfelt suicide note shared on his Facebook page, Mithi poured out the distressing experiences he encountered during his marriage to Phiri. He accused her of infidelity, deceit, and a desire for a lavish lifestyle. The note revealed his deep anguish, saying, “If you are seeing this, then I am probably DEAD! She asked for ‘space,’ but in reality, she was involved with other people. Learn from me, Sabby, you are the reason for my death.”

Mithi went on to describe instances where he allegedly caught his wife having intimate relations with other men, including a young relative and their landlord, whom he openly insulted in his post. He lamented, “Why did I take my own life? It was because I loved her with all my heart. I couldn’t bear the nonsense she was involved in anymore.”

However, Mithi also expressed conflicting emotions, confessing, “But at the same time, it was true love for me. She was the only woman in my life.” He concluded, “If I cannot be with her, then let me find peace in death.”

Tragically, Mithi left behind five children, three of whom were his own, while the other two had different fathers. He expressed doubts about the paternity of the children, adding, “Anyway, enjoy your life and party harder while you still can. Your time will come, Dodx will never take you anywhere. Relax yourself.”

However, Phiri, in a post titled “Beyond the accusations: The unseen reality of my story,” contradicted her late husband’s suicide note. She revealed that she had endured spousal abuse throughout their marriage, dismissing his accusations of infidelity as misguided. Phiri attributed her husband’s death to the overwhelming debt he faced, which caused him sleepless nights and inner turmoil.

In her post, Phiri shared, “Behind closed doors, I suffered relentless abuse from my husband, a painful truth that remained hidden for far too long. It pains me to be implicated in his tragic decision when his struggles extended beyond our personal conflicts. One of his overwhelming burdens was the mountain of debt that contributed to his sleepless nights and inner turmoil.”

Phiri also disclosed that she had been blackmailed into silence about the abuse she endured, fearing her reputation would be tarnished. She added, “When I reached my breaking point and sought liberation from this cycle of torment, he revealed the bombshell he had kept hidden for so long. I’m not seeking justification, but shedding light on the complexities that plagued our relationship.”

Phiri pleaded with the public not to further propagate her late husband’s story while seeking empathy, understanding, and acknowledgment that the truth surpasses surface-level perceptions shaped by external circumstances.
