Two Fatalities in Cowlitz County Crash on I-5

COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. (KPTV) – A tragic accident claimed the lives of two individuals in Cowlitz County over the weekend, as reported by the Washington State Patrol.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, just north of exit 27. Preliminary investigations conducted by the Washington State Patrol revealed that a 2018 Audi R8 was traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree on an embankment. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with a train rail car carrying liquid propane before coming to a halt off the side of the road.

Tragically, both the driver and the passenger of the Audi R8 lost their lives in the crash. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Logan Kallwick from Kalama, and the passenger, identified as 23-year-old Taylor Lavigne, also from Kalama, were pronounced dead at the scene. It was determined that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
