Two Juveniles Arrested in Connection to Car Theft in Crisp County, Georgia

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – Two young individuals have been apprehended and taken into custody in Cordele, Georgia, following their involvement in a car theft incident.

According to a release from the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Saturday, December 16, at approximately 2 a.m. A diligent Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy, while conducting routine patrol duties in Cordele, noticed a black vehicle exceeding the speed limit along W. 17th Avenue.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle blatantly ignored the instructions and proceeded to drive at high speeds, exhibiting reckless behavior.

The situation escalated as the suspects approached the 500 block of S. 6th Street. At this point, two individuals decided to flee from the still-in-motion vehicle on foot. Unfortunately, the unattended vehicle continued to roll and eventually collided with a parked car nearby, causing damage.

After a brief but determined pursuit on foot, the deputies successfully apprehended both suspects, who were later identified as a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old juvenile hailing from Cordele. The apprehended individuals were subsequently transported to a Youth Detention Center for further processing and detention.

The 14-year-old suspect is currently facing a range of charges including fleeing or attempting to elude, theft by taking, two counts of entering auto, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, obstruction, six counts of failure to obey a stop sign, and aggressive driving.

On the other hand, the 15-year-old suspect is charged with theft by taking, two counts of entering auto, and obstruction.

In addition to the arrests, deputies discovered that the vehicle involved in the incident had been stolen from Rainey’s Used Cars. However, the theft had not yet been reported at the time of the arrests.
