Two Juveniles Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery in Valdosta, Georgia

Valdosta, Georgia – Two juveniles have been apprehended and charged following an attempted armed robbery incident that occurred in Valdosta on Friday, December 15th. The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) swiftly responded to the incident, ensuring the safety of the victim and successfully apprehending the suspects.

Attempted Robbery Incident

At approximately 4:20 p.m., officers from the VPD were dispatched to the 600 block of East Hill Avenue, Valdosta, in response to a distress call from a 59-year-old man. According to the victim, he was sitting inside his vehicle when two individuals approached him with ill intentions. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded money from the victim, instilling fear and panic.

Thankfully, before the suspects could execute their plan, the victim managed to report the incident to the authorities. The swift response from the VPD prevented any harm from coming to the victim and ensured the safety of the community.

Successful Apprehension Operation

Upon receiving the distress call, a VPD K9 Unit was deployed to the area to assist in locating the suspects. Utilizing their highly trained K9s, the officers conducted an extensive search, eventually discovering the two perpetrators hiding in nearby bushes. However, upon discovering their presence, the suspects attempted to flee on foot.

Undeterred by the suspects’ escape attempt, the VPD officers initiated a brief foot pursuit, demonstrating their exceptional teamwork and dedication to protecting the community. Within a short period, both suspects were apprehended without further incident, thanks to the combined efforts of the officers and their K9 partners. Chief Leslie Manahan commended the officers’ teamwork, stating, “This was great teamwork between our officers and the K9. Their collaboration resulted in the swift apprehension of these two offenders.”

Identification and Arrest

The victim positively identified both juveniles as the individuals who attempted to rob him at gunpoint. Further investigation revealed that one suspect was a 15-year-old and the other a 16-year-old. Consequently, both offenders were promptly arrested and charged with armed robbery.

Following their arrest, the Department of Juvenile Justice detained the suspects at a Regional Youth Detention Center. This ensures that they will face appropriate legal consequences for their alleged actions and allows for the possibility of rehabilitation.
