Tragic Fire Incident Claims Lives of Woman and Her Two Children in Una District

Kullu, Times News Network – A devastating fire broke out in a hutment of migrant labourers in Kailua village of Haroli tehsil in Una district late Saturday night, resulting in the tragic death of a 25-year-old woman, Sumitra Devi, along with her 9-month-old son Ankit and 5-year-old daughter Naina. The woman’s husband, Vijay Shankar, also suffered burn injuries and has been referred to the PGIMER in Chandigarh for treatment. The family, originally from Uttar Pradesh, worked as labourers in Una.

The incident occurred around 11 pm on Saturday, and the police were alerted immediately. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered that five huts had been completely gutted by the fire. While the occupants of the other huts managed to escape, Sumitra and her children were trapped inside and died on the spot. The bodies have been sent for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by the practice of burning wood inside the huts to keep warm during the winter season. However, further investigations are required to confirm this theory.

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragic incident. In a message, the CM announced that he had directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance and support to the grieving family.

This unfortunate incident in Una is the second fire tragedy to occur this year. In February, four children lost their lives in a similar fire incident in a hutment at Bane di Hatti.

The authorities are now focusing on raising awareness about fire safety measures among migrant labourers and providing them with necessary assistance to prevent such incidents in the future.
