Police Officer Identified in Indianapolis Shooting During Vehicle Pursuit on Near Northwest Side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has released the name of the officer involved in a recent shooting incident that occurred during a police chase on December 10. Officer Bryan Reed, a 4-year veteran of the force, fired a shot at a suspect during the pursuit.

Following the standard procedure for police shootings, Officer Reed has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

Authorities have also apprehended 23-year-old Sebastian Jimenez, who was involved in the incident. Jimenez now faces multiple charges, including battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, and reckless driving.

The incident took place around midnight on December 10, when IMPD officers responded to a report of multiple vehicles driving recklessly and performing dangerous maneuvers in the 2800 block of Lafayette Road. The area is home to various businesses, including stores, doctor’s offices, and restaurants.

Upon arrival, officers began devising a plan to intervene and stop the reckless driving. However, during this process, one officer reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity, prompting heightened alertness among the law enforcement personnel.

Following the sound of gunfire, officers observed a vehicle nearby that was also driving recklessly and endangering pedestrians. In an attempt to halt the vehicle, the police initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect’s car refused to comply, resulting in a high-speed pursuit.

The chase led the officers to the 3000 block of Lincoln Road, where the suspect’s vehicle reached a dead end. In a desperate move, the driver executed a U-turn and intentionally rammed into an IMPD patrol car, with Officer Bryan Reed inside. In response to this imminent threat, Officer Reed discharged his weapon, aiming at the suspect. Fortunately, neither Jimenez nor his passenger sustained any injuries from the gunshot.

Undeterred, Jimenez accelerated towards the intersection of West 30th Street and Tibbs Avenue, colliding with another vehicle at the junction. Subsequently, Jimenez’s vehicle came to a halt, allowing the police to apprehend him without further incident.

During the course of the incident, both Jimenez and his passenger, as well as two police officers, sustained minor injuries. They were promptly transported to nearby healthcare facilities for medical evaluation and treatment.

Remarkably, despite the intensity of the chase and the discharge of a firearm, no damage was reported to the nearby houses or apartment complex.

As of Monday, Jimenez was not held as an inmate at the Marion County jail. However, a jury trial for him has been scheduled for March 21.
