Haridwar: The partially burned remains of a missing woman, who had been missing since December 4, were discovered in a forest under the jurisdiction of Muniki Reti police station.

According to the police, the 21-year-old, identified as Vinita Bhandari from Dhalwala, took her own life. Her partner has been arrested on charges of abetment of suicide. The woman was reported missing, following which a police case was registered.

Initial investigation suggested that she had a relationship with Arjun Rawat, a BSc student who allegedly refused to marry her, prompting her to take the extreme step.

Muniki Reti police station SHO, Ritesh Shah, told TOI, “A CCTV footage was found where the girl was seen heading alone towards Dehradun from Natraj Chowk after which a search operation was launched. Her half-burnt body was discovered 200 metres deep in the forest near the forest checkpoint.”
