Authorities have revealed that the cause of death of Gaynor Lord, a mother-of-three who went missing, seems to be “consistent with drowning”. Norfolk police made this statement after a body was recovered from the River Wensum on Friday. The body has now been formally identified as that of the 55-year-old Ms. Lord.

Ms. Lord’s disappearance occurred on December 8, after she left her workplace in Norwich city centre early at 2:45 pm. Specialist divers conducted a week-long search, ultimately discovering a body in the river.

While the cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, early indications point towards drowning, according to the police. They are awaiting a toxicology report from the Home Office for a definitive determination.

Formal identification of Ms. Lord’s body took place on Sunday, pending formal inquest proceedings. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. However, a post-mortem examination did not reveal any signs of third-party involvement.

Prior to the recovery of the body, Ms. Lord’s belongings were found in Wensum Park, approximately 1.5 miles away from her workplace at Jarrolds department store. Her coat was discovered in the river flowing through the park. Various items including her clothing, mobile phone, glasses, and two rings of sentimental value were found at different locations within the park.

On Friday morning, two members of the dive team were observed retrieving the body from the river in Norwich. The area had been marked with an orange buoy. At around 12 pm, officers carefully extracted the body from the water, placing it in a black bag.

Following the discovery, floral tributes were laid near the gates of Wensum Park in memory of Ms. Lord. One of the tributes bore the message, “Gaynor, may you find peace. God bless your family.”

It is worth noting that the police consulted with officers from Lancashire Constabulary who were involved in the search for Nicola Bulley. Ms. Bulley’s body was found in the River Wyre in Lancashire on February 19. The Lancashire force faced criticism for their handling of the investigation and the handling of Ms. Bulley’s personal information.
