The Norfolk Police have confirmed that a body discovered in the River Wensum in Norwich on Friday has been formally identified as the missing mother-of-three, Gaynor Lord. The 55-year-old woman went missing on December 8, after leaving her workplace in Norwich city centre early, around 2.45pm.

Ms. Lord’s personal belongings, including her clothing, mobile phone, and jewelry, were found in Wensum Park later that evening. The park, located approximately 1.5 miles away from her workplace at Jarrolds Department Store, also revealed the discovery of her coat in the river running through the park.

After a week of extensive searches, specialist underwater teams made the tragic discovery of Gaynor Lord’s body on Friday morning. The body was formally identified on Sunday, and a formal inquest will be held in due course.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Ms. Lord’s disappearance. However, they have stated that her death is not being treated as suspicious. A Home Office post-mortem examination conducted on Saturday found no indications of any third-party involvement. While awaiting the toxicology results before confirming the cause of death, early indications point towards drowning as the likely cause.

A close friend of Ms. Lord, Julie Butcher, shared that their last meeting on December 5 had been a cheerful one, with Gaynor being “upbeat and happy,” discussing plans for Christmas. Ms. Butcher mentioned that they spoke on the day of her disappearance at 2.15pm, but the call had to be cut short due to work commitments. Another call from Ms. Lord at 4.15pm seemed to be a pocket dial, as Ms. Butcher could hear movement in the background.

The Norfolk Police had previously expressed difficulty in determining Ms. Lord’s state of mind at the time of her disappearance. However, with the absence of any conclusive evidence, the investigation is ongoing.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, as they come to terms with the loss of a beloved mother and friend. The local authorities will continue their efforts to understand the circumstances leading to Gaynor Lord’s untimely demise.
