Man Shot Dead by Police in Port Harcourt Shooting Spree

In a shocking incident in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, a man identified only as Nuhu was fatally shot by the police after embarking on a shooting spree. The assailant, reportedly a scavenger, stabbed a police inspector multiple times and snatched his AK-47 rifle in the Ada George area.

According to sources, the chaos ensued when the hoodlum also attacked another police officer who attempted to intervene, before fleeing the scene. Passers-by and fellow police colleagues, determined to apprehend the suspect, gave chase until he disappeared from sight.

However, the situation took a tragic turn when the individual reached a location known as ‘Boro Pit’ and began firing indiscriminately with the stolen rifle. Regrettably, one innocent bystander lost their life before law enforcement operatives could arrive at the scene.

Upon encountering the police, the miscreant reportedly displayed aggression and engaged them in a shootout, ultimately resulting in his demise.

An anonymous source revealed, “This man, known as Nuhu, was believed to be under the influence of drugs. Even when the policemen sighted him, he attempted to open fire, prompting them to defend themselves and shoot him dead.”

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the unidentified man shot by the culprit, as well as the assailant himself, succumbed to their injuries.

Iringe-Koko stated, “On November 16, 2023, at approximately 1500 hrs, the Rivers State Police Command received a distress call from the DPO of Rumukpakani Division. The report indicated that an unidentified male hoodlum approached Inspector Ade Rotimi, who was stationed at the APC pin-down point on Ada George Road, along with three other individuals. Suddenly, the assailant launched a vicious attack, stabbing Inspector Rotimi multiple times on the head and seizing his rifle.”

She continued, “The perpetrator also injured Inspector Bala Yusuf on his hand before fleeing towards the Boro Pit Area. Once there, he began firing indiscriminately, tragically claiming the lives of two unidentified civilians. Our operatives promptly intervened, preventing further havoc.”
