Accident – Death – Obituary News : Kochi City Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving and Narcotic Abuse
Kochi City Police conducted a citywide combing operation on Saturday, resulting in the registration of 222 cases against vehicle drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol. The operation aimed to reduce vehicle accidents caused by drunken driving and eradicate the abuse of narcotic substances.

In addition to the cases of drunk driving, 44 cases were registered for peddling or possession of narcotic substances during the special drive. The combing operation was carried out under the directive of City Police Commissioner A Akber, with Deputy Commissioner Shaju K Varghese leading the team.
The operation also targeted other traffic violations, with 98 cases registered for speeding and rash driving, and 32 cases for drinking in public. The City Police stated in a statement that they are intensifying vehicle checking within the city limits to ensure road safety.
Furthermore, the police registered 22 cases related to the sale and abuse of banned tobacco substances. The crackdown on these illegal activities demonstrates the commitment of the police force to maintain law and order in the city.
In a separate incident, the Mattancherry police successfully apprehended five individuals involved in a theft at a hotel on Gujarati Road. The accused persons, identified as Akhil Ussam (31), Althaf Gulab (26), Abdul Ashkar (25), Nabeel Salim (34), and Saneer Latheef (28), are all residents of West Kochi.

According to the police, the theft occurred when the hotel was locked down due to a bank attachment. The owner of the hotel had recently repaid his dues, and the hotel was returned to him. However, upon reopening the sealed hotel, the theft of 14 televisions and pipe fittings came to light.
The Mattancherry police promptly registered an FIR and initiated a thorough investigation. The arrested individuals were identified through the investigation, and they were subsequently apprehended. It is worth noting that all five accused have a history of criminal activity and already have cases registered against them in Mattancherry and other police stations in the city.
During the arrest, the police managed to recover two of the stolen televisions. The successful operation was carried out by a team led by Inspector Thrideep Chandran under the guidance of ACP Manoj K R.
